“…Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-8

His perspective —

Jess and I met in the spring of 2023 in EMT school, both pursuing firefighting. At first glance, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her and I haven’t taken them off of her since.

This was my second time taking this class but this time was different. I know God had His hand in not only me passing (lol) but leading me to the love of my life, the angel he sent down for me. During class, we would get broken up into different numbered groups to practice skills and assessments in separate classrooms. I didn’t care what number I was assigned, I just made sure whatever number Jess was given, I was heading to THAT classroom. She was going to be stuck with me, whether she liked it or not. Once the semester had ended, we still had to pass our national EMT test to get our license. Knowing how smart she was, I had to keep in touch somehow, so that’s when I made my second move. I added her on Instagram and liked one of her pictures, planting the seed. We struck up a conversation about the testing process (of course she passed first try). Me… not so much. So I asked for her help with studying… and she took the bait. :)

Our first time hanging out exceeded all my expectations — let’s just say I had a hard time focusing on the books. We had lots of conversation and laughs where I really got to know her. Towards the end of the night, Zach Bryan’s song Tourniquet played over my house speakers, it was our first time hearing it and for a moment, it felt like time stood still. This became our song and little did we know, the beginning of us. We looked at each other and felt God in the room with us.

The next day I invited her to my favorite bar in town, The Monte Carlo, to meet up with my friends. As I watched her walk into the bar, surprised she actually came, she had this glow about her that lit up the whole place. I introduced her to some friends, we played pool and kept the laughs rolling from the night before. Towards the end of the night, I took her to the bar top, just us two. We sat and talked until the bar closed down. Locking eyes all night and early love in the air, we decided to give this a real shot. We put it in writing and stamped our love with the tradition of stapling our name and date on a $1 bill on the Monte Carlo wall. We have been inseparable ever since, I wouldn’t want it any other way. God gifted me an angel, I will treasure forever. — M

The summer Myles and I met was delightfully unexpected… I had recently decided to change my entire life trajectory and pursue firefighting. Knowing the challenges and workload ahead of me, I told myself to put my head down and to not look up until I received the badge. A measly 3 weeks into that process, I meet Mr. Myles Daniel Vincent. “CRAP” I thought. He’s handsome, reserved, respectful, with this quiet charm about him. No way that I start a romance at a time like this! I tried avoiding the growing feeling but everywhere I looked he was right there. Little did I know he was manipulating the room assignments in our EMT class (sneaky sneaky!)

After our class ended, I never thought I’d see him again. We didn’t exchange numbers and other than knowing he drove a BMW, I knew zero details about him. But so it goes these days, Myles found and followed me on social media around the time I passed my national EMT exam (woo!) Curious how my other classmates faired out, I asked him how his test went — turns out my assistance was needed… :)

We met up to study and after some great conversation I think we both silently realized this wasn’t going to be our last time seeing one another. As I was leaving, he invited me to meet up with him at a bar in his ole’ neck of the woods with some of his buddies. I knew saying yes to him in that moment meant more than saying yes for just one night. Deep down, I knew an adventure was on the brink. For the first time in a long time, I was equally nervous and excited for it to unfold. We ended the night with a sweet tradition and a lifelong commitment. God is clever in His rightful timing. To be loved by Myles is a sacred privilege — I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’d wait another 30 years for a love like Myles. Soli Deo Gloria. — J

And the rest is history

Glory be to God alone for the love we have found in each other.
